Dr. Zakari Mumuni

Dr. Zakari Mumuni is the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, appointed in February 2025. He is a seasoned economist and central banker with over two decades of experience in economic research, monetary policy analysis and operations, and financial markets supervision.
He joined the Bank of Ghana in 2002 and has since held several senior technical and leadership positions, including Director of the Financial Markets Department and Head of the Modelling and Forecasting Office, where he led the core analytical team supporting the Monetary Policy Committee. He also served as Special Assistant to the Governor, supporting strategic engagement with the Ministry of Finance, the IMF, and other international partners.
Dr. Mumuni holds an MPhil in Economics from the University of Ghana and a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham. His academic and policy interests include inflation targeting, exchange rate dynamics, and macroeconomic policy in developing economies.
Prior to his central banking career, he worked as a Foreign Service Officer at Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has taught economics at the University of Ghana and Ashesi University.
As First Deputy Governor, Dr. Mumuni plays a key role in monetary policy formulation and provides strategic oversight over policy analysis, financial markets operations, and foreign exchange management.
